‘Fun-maker’ Brian Hubrich

June 17!

BRIAN HUBRICH, former outdoor crowd-pleasing stilt-walking accordionist at Japan’s Dutch-themed Huisten Bosch park, will be the night’s featured artist TUESDAY, JUNE 17 at the Salt Lake Area Accordion Club at South Valley Unitarian building, 6876 So. Highland Dr. (2000 East), half-mile south of I-215 freeway exist 8.

Son of Ralph and Karen Hubrich of Sandy, Brian first studied accordion under his father’s tutelage and in his youth won awards at American Accordionists Association and Accordion Federation of North America. He has performed at Orlando’s “Big Squeeze” accordion convention and at the Accordionists & Teachers Guild

He worked 5 years as a U.S. Weltmeister accordion salesman, technician, and demonstrator. For 2 years he operated his own music school for children, having 100 students at its peak, 40 of whom were accordionists. He won Sandy City’s 2002 award for “Best Commercial Band” and with his students holds the state record for the largest Marching Accordion Orchestra.

He will play popular, classical, semi-classical, and musical parodies. He plays piano and chromatic accordions. Also an accordion funster, “I may bring my vacuum powered accordion for kicks,” he says. Brian is in his last year of a Bachelor of Music Performance degree at Southern Utah University in Cedar City and is also a Sky West Airlines flight attendant. Upon graduation, “I plan to go back into entertaining full time, performing at city celebrations, company parties, and do contract entertainment for amusement parks and carnivals.”

The evening will get off to a great start with a number from the “PLAY ALONG PLAYERS,” showing their preps for their August 16 debut at Salt Lake City’s Italian “Ferragosto!” Festival, followed by 12-year-old accordion student NATHAN MOOS. Son of Philip and Nancy Moos, Nathan recently won a District Science Fair Award representing Brookwood Elementary. He has studied piano and viola, loves basketball and Tae Kwan-Do. After Nathan, JANET TODD will play a selection of French music, some of which she played at the recent Delta Airline’s inaugural SLC to Paris Flight and which she will play at this summer’s French Alliance Francaise Park City event.

The Play Along Players, led by Janet Todd, which includes EVERYONE who wishes to bring their instrument and join in the fun, will play pre-meeting music beginning at 6:15 p.m. Socializing begins at the same time.

$4 donation for all adults but as always, youth 15 and under enter free to help pass the accordion to the next generation. See you there!
